Dr. Michelle Gilpin Lopez
“Wherever the art of medicine is loved, there is also a love for humanity”(Hippocrates). I believe this quote captures the heart of family medicine as it should be; its roots firmly planted in a love for humanity, a love for human life from conception until natural death.
As a family medicine physician, it is my vocation to serve others by teaching them how to achieve and maintain health and wholeness. As an integrative medicine physician, I seek to offer patients a multifaceted approach to their health, healing and wholeness through the use of nutrition, healthy lifestyle recommendations, healing herbs, prayer and spirituality, coupled with appropriate and judicial use of medications, diagnostic testing, surgical intervention and specialty referrals.
In an effort to offer a multifaceted approach to caring for the wholeness and uniqueness of the individual human person, I have furthered my traditional allopathic training with training in other areas including NaProTechnology, the Walsh approach to assessing and healing mental health difficulties, and an herbal medicine fellowship. I have participated in research in the past, taught resident physicians and continue to research and problem solve for my current patients.
I believe in today’s healthcare climate, individuals need a healthcare advocate. As a family medicine physician, I both teach and advocate for my patients as they navigate the complexity of disease and seek to both achieve and restore optimal health.
It is a privilege and an honor to serve others as a physician of family medicine. I hope and seek to care for individuals as I would care for my own family. However, I truly believe it is ultimately the Divine Physician who heals each one of us and we as physicians are only His instruments here on earth, figuratively entering: “Into whatever houses (he/she) may enter..for the benefit of the sick.”
